A-10 Warthog
A-10 General Information: The A-10 is the world's premiere Close Air Support fighter. Greg is currently flying this aircraft with the Idaho Air National Guard's 190th Fighter Squadron at Boise's Gowen Field. This aircraft was designed around it's primary weapon, the GAU-8. The GAU-8 is a 30mm Gatling gun. It can shoot up to 60 rounds a second. And when each slug weighs a pound, that's a lot firepower. The A-10 also carries the AGM-65 Maverick missile and a large assortment of free fall weapons. Coincidentally, Bill, and Col Jim Brickel, while on the Aeronautics and Space Council, worked with project Officer, Col Jay Brill, to get this aircraft started at Fairchild. Additionally, Bill's General Electric Aircraft Equipment Division built the GAU-8 gun at Burlington Vermont.

| The "Hog" over it's prey after a "meeting" with the A-10's devastating Depleted Uranium Armor Piercing Incendiary round.. | The A-10 pilot always depends heavily on the Ground FAC. In the case of this "panel check", it is obvious the pilot felt he needed to have all of the panels, and apparently even the screws, checked on the top of his aircraft. Or maybe the pilot was having trouble reading something on his line-up card.... |
