AOL Disclaimer & degraded graphics & Work Around

If you are using AOL as your browser, the site works exactly the way we intended it to but depending on how your browsers preferences are set up, the graphics frequently (but not always) load in a very degraded mode and they look like #%$*.  If your browser makes the pictures look very fuzzy, it is because your browser is "sharpening" the graphics in an effort to make the graphics look better.  The problem is, I've already "sharpened" the photos on our site so that they look good for everyone.  For AOL 6.0, you need to go into "Settings," then "Preferences," then "Internet Properties," then click the "Web Graphics" and select "Never compress graphics" check box.  You'll then have to go and delete the temp files as defined in the third paragraph.

Another option if you too have been conquered by the Microsoft giant and are using windows as an operating system, here is a work around that I've used in my web site validation: you can switch to Internet Explorer while connected through AOL (even though you may think you can't, you can).  This may require you to set up the explorer profile if you've never done it before.

For any pages you have previously visited where degraded pictures were uploaded, to get the pictures to upload properly, you will have to empty your temporary internet files folder to get the graphics to upload in all of their JPEG glory. to do this click "Tools" in the Internet Explorer tool bar, click on "Internet Options...." then click the the "Delete Files..." button of the "Temporary Internet Files...." box on the "General" tab of the box that comes up.  Since I don't know what the "Delete all offline content" check box would really do, make sure it is not selected and click "OK".  Go back to Internet Explorer and surf away and e-mail me if this doesn't work: greg@heritageflight.org

Enter Site now and put up with possibly #%$**& graphics
